The Bible is full of promises that God has made to us. We can quote “Ask and it shall be given to you…” or say “Jesus came so that I can have an abundant life.” Or quote many of the promises that God has made to us in the Bible. So, then the question is: What’s wrong with my life? I have read the Bible, I’ve prayed and been patient and faithful while waiting for God to answer my prayers, but nothing is changing!
All of those scriptures and blessings are true, but God is not an ATM machine. The Bible doesn’t come with a special PIN that allows us to transfer money from God’s account to ours whenever we feel like it. God created us because we are supposed to have a relationship with Him. That is why He calls Himself our Father. He loved us before we loved Him. Jeremiah 29:13 AMP:
Then you will seek Me, inquire for, and require Me [as a vital necessity] and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.
God wants a relationship with us. He wants us to “require Him as a vital necessity”. Do you require Him as a vital necessity? Vital is defined as: Needed by your body in order to keep living.” That is how important God should be to you. If we do not consult and consider Him in every aspect of our lives – first – we will not keep living. Our spirit will die. So many times, people say ‘All I have left to do is pray.’, ‘When all else fails…pray.’,’I’ve tried everything, all I can do now is pray.’, etc. No! The FIRST thing you should do is pray and ask for God’s guidance. He already knows what you should do before you even know there’s a problem. Ask for His guidance and leadership first. Deuteronomy 10:12-13 NIV:
And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?
God could require so many things of us to reap the benefits of being co-heirs with Jesus! But what does He want from us? Our love! Our obedience and respect. Not only that, but He gave us His love first! He is asking for a relationship with you. He loves you, He wants you to love Him! He also wants our obedience. This part can be hard. But look at what verse 13 says: It’s for our own good! Don’t you think that God who knows the beginning from the end and loves you with an everlasting love will only tell you to do what is good for you? He wants you to be obedient so He can tell you how to avoid so many painful situations in life.
So, are you obedient? Do you love God? Are you only asking for things from God and not stopping to list for His instructions? he loves you, let go of the reigns and give them to Him. He can’t and won’t steer you wrong. God wants you to be happy, God wants you to be successful, but you have to talk to Him to find out how He plans to bless you. How do you find out His plans for you? Matthew 6:33 NIV:
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Seek God first. Above all else. Before family. Before friends. Before work. Before yourself. Seek Him. Seek to be one with Him. Seek His face. Seek to taken back to Heaven with Him. Seek to love Him. Seek to really know Him. Seek His righteousness. Righteousness is defined as: being morally right and justified. Seek God’s rightness. He is not capable of lying, or leading you in the wrong direction. Seek Him. Seek Him as if your life depends on it. Because it does. Your life on this earth and your eternal salvation depends on it.
Of course God wants you to be happy and prosperous here on earth, but not at the cost of your soul. He will not pat you on the head and tell you that everything is peaches and cream and know that your soul is in jeopardy. Ask Him if you’re where you are because He is trying to show you something about your life/friends/decisions.
Seek Him above all things because He wants to spend forever with you. He wants to spend eternity with all of His children. He doesn’t want one of us to be lost. So that may mean that He does not respond to specific prayers the way you want because it’s not good for you at that time – or maybe not at all. He loves and cares for you. He wants to help you navigate this narrow road that leads to Him. So many people fall off and are lost. You’ll never make it if you don’t seek Him. So Seek Him He will guide you. He will make sure you stay on the straight and narrow. You will find Him, He will never leave you or forsake you. Then, all the tings, the worldly things will be added to you.
God will answer your prayers if what you’re asking for is within His will for your life. He is not responsible for finishing something that you started without His approval. So, if you were tired of waiting for an answer from God and you jumped out there and decided to do something that God did not tell you to do – you may be in for some trouble. Ask for God’s guidance in getting out of the mess that you may find yourself in because you did not wait for His guidance. Make sure you’re praying for things within His will for your life. You have to be in close communication with Him to know what that is.
It’s not always easy. Just don’t give up. Keep going everyday. Pray without ceasing throughout the day. Pray for His help and guidance. Pray before you talk. Pray about everything.
Seek Him. Seek Him.
